This is an elegant
pair of Regency bar
back chairs in solid
mahogany inlaid with
ebony. The rare
design incorporates
an ebonised line
inlay detail to the
bar backs, in a
Greek Key motif that
is characteristic of
the Regency period.
The central
horizontal back
splats are
particularly well
carved, consisting
of a raised and
fielded central
tablet, bounded by
lyre shaped
carving, edged with
floral rosettes.
The stuff over seats
have been
upholstered using
traditional
materials and
methods (horsehair
and webbing),
covered in a gold
trellis weave fabric
and edged by a
scroll gimp in
complimentary
colours. The seats
lie over slender
turned mahogany
forelegs.
The chairs are in
very good condition
with no cracks or
breaks to the backs
or legs. They stand
sturdily and are not
loose or wobbly.
Depth of colour and
patina is also very
good.
Overall, this is an
elegant pair of
chairs that could be
used either side of
a hall table or
occasional table to
provide additional
seating.
